Please remember to get a copy of Erin Gruwell’s memoir, Teach With Your Heart, if you haven’t already.  We will be spending a couple of days at the end of the month discussing it, so you need to start reading it. While you’re reading, you should be keeping a mental (or written!) log that outlines the things you want to talk about. Also keep some of these things in mind:

  •  There is an incredible amount of diversity inside the four walls of this one class room.  How does this parallel or contradict your own personal experience? What sorts of things do we base our prejudices on?  Is it possible to be completely unprejudiced?  What does it take to change the perspective of someone who has prejudiced views?
  • Can one person make a difference in the world?
  • What is Gruwell’s turtle?  How do you know?
