Another note. I have also been attending the Native American Film Festival. It is very interesting learning about their culture, and seeing a knew point of view about america. Last night the movie was about John Trudell. He is a Native American Activist that has been through so much. He burned the american flag on the steps of the capitol, had his wife and children die in a fire as well as been in movies. He is a very inspiring person. one part of the movie was an interviewer asking him what COLUMBIS DAY meant to him. Are you serious? He is Native America. Did she forget that Columbus came and murdered them and took away any right to life that they once owned? that kind of made me upset. He repsonded by saying ” It would be like having an OSAMA BIN LADEN day for americans.” I thought that was the approrpiate answer. So , just updating on my events.

I just wanted to comment on how I went to the Gospel Festival the other night. It was an awesome experience , even if you aren’t religious. Hearing the choirs were amazing. Choirs from Binghamton, Oswego, Syracuse, and Wells were there. They sang beautifully.

 Hello everyone,

I just got back when from the Turning Darkness into Laughter seminar at Corey Union. I thought it was very interesting. She was very entertaining, and she wrote a book called ” Naked Feathers.”  She talked about how she was anorexic when she was 14 years old, and all of her tough times. What really amused me was that she told us about her mother being in the hospital  and her mother has dementia. So to get her mother out of bed to to her exercises , she promised to put lipstick on her lips for her. I thought that was very cute. The overall seminar was very interesting, and it taught the entire audience to laugh at life, and not to bottle problems up inside.

We were told to blog about what we have a passion for. When thinking really hard about this, I’m still dumbfounded as to what I truly have a passion for. But I guess that’s what the whole college experience will do for me. It will (hopefully) make me see and understand what I am good at and what I truly do love to do. I see how  “The First Turtle” pertains to that subject.

“Still Life with Turtles” was interesting, to say the least. I think it is a bit creepy how he got obsessed with turtles. But I think the story isn’t just about a boy being entranced by turtles and wildlife. Perhaps there is a deeper meaning to this story, yet I really can’t pick out what it is. I would think there has to be. I did like how the author  used so much imagery to describe the way he felt about things.  ” It glimmered in dragonfly wings and sporadic silver- beaded sprays torred up by leaping frogs.” That was a favorite line of mine. He is correct when he says that people are threatened by things non-human. I believe that people are afraid of others stepping out of line and doing their own thing. Overall i understood the reading, and thought it was entertaining.
